Authentic Gulf-style karak chai, handcrafted specialty lattes & deliciously unique desserts with international flavors — coming soon to S Terrace Road in Tempe, AZ.
Tempe's Home for Karak Chai, Specialty Coffee & Desserts
Karak House is opening soon in Tempe, Arizona — at 920 S Terrace Road, steps from the Arizona State University campus, Mill Avenue, and Tempe Town Lake. Our Tempe café will be the first dedicated karak chai social lounge in the East Valley, planted in one of America's most dynamic college cities and within a five-minute walk of ASU's Memorial Union, Sun Devil Stadium, Desert Financial Arena, and the ASU Karsten Golf Course. With nearly 80,000 students across ASU's Tempe campus — one of the largest student bodies in the country, and home to a fast-growing Muslim, South Asian, and international community — Tempe is where Karak House belongs.
S Terrace Road sits between Apache Boulevard and University Drive, in the commercial corridor that feeds ASU's social life. Mill Avenue's bars, restaurants, and late-night scene are two minutes away; Tempe Marketplace's shopping district is five; the Tempe Center for the Arts and Tempe Town Lake are within walking distance. Karak House Tempe will be open late seven days a week, because karak chai is as much a late-night study drink as it is a morning ritual — and Tempe runs on both. Whether you're searching for specialty coffee shops near Tempe, karak chai near ASU, desserts near Mill Avenue, or simply the best coffee shop Tempe has to offer for a long study session, S Terrace Road is where we'll be waiting.

What is Karak Chai?
Karak chai is a slow-simmered, full-bodied spiced tea born in the Arabian Gulf and rooted in the hospitality traditions of South Asia. The word karak means "strong" in Urdu and Hindi — a fitting name for a tea brewed with bold black leaves, fresh cardamom, and evaporated milk until it turns deep caramel and richly aromatic. At Karak House, we honor that ritual. Every cup is hand-brewed to order, never pulled from a machine, and finished with the small details that make a difference: a pinch of saffron, a crack of fresh cardamom, the right ratio of milk to tea. It is a drink meant to be shared slowly — a reason to sit, to talk, and to feel at home.
Why Tempe Loves Karak House
Tempe is one of the most internationally diverse college towns in the American Southwest, and the Valley's Muslim community has grown dramatically in the last decade — centered around ASU, the Islamic Community Center of Tempe, and the broader Phoenix metro's South Asian and Arab-American diaspora. Karak House Tempe will be the East Valley's first authentic karak chai café, designed for students pulling late study sessions, families coming in after Maghrib prayer, and newcomers discovering what Gulf-style karak actually tastes like.
